Description

Ever since I found out about the many meanings of Xion's name I wanted to create an image based on one of them. The flowers are the Tatarian Aster, which are called Shion in Japanese. In Japanese floriography they mean "I won't forget you" or "remembrance". Fitting, no?

I may have also used this as an excuse to break out my Copic markers again since I haven't used them in forever. While working on this my colourless blender ran out which made doing part of it a pain in the ass. >( Ah well, I persevered regardless (and managed to fume myself out of my room in the process).

If I get any comments on this picture about how Xion sucks/is a Mary Sue/is an AkuRoku cockblocker/etc I won't hesitate to turn them off. Besides, anyone who didn't feel sorry for her after playing Days is a heartless monster and probably has no soul. :< (Opinions, I have them too!)

Long, serious critique shall be long and serious.

Vision:
I first noticed that you didn't completely darken in the coat, as there's still white visible where the light source hits Xion. I applaud you for that, since most of the art involving the organization cloaks do have the cloaks completely filled with color. Obviously not the case here, and instead of detracting from the main subject (her face), it compliments her skin nicely. In addition, Xion's skin tone itself is not overdone either. My only remark here is that her shading probably could have been blended more smoothly (but, blender ran out, so that's understandable). Also, the shadow underneath her chin is slightly over-pronounced, but it's a small thing.

And. Flowers. I can never bring myself to draw, much less ink, something with that caliber of detail. In addition, =tabriis also subtly lightened rings on the petals. Every detail contributes to the picture as a whole, and even though it's a detail that can easily escape the eyes, it also supports the lighting scheme used here.

Anatomically-wise, Xion's facial features have a masculine hint in them. Perhaps that just happens to be my take on it. I don't trust that grin.

Originality:
Well, obviously Xion isn't =tabriis's original character. However, I must give Tabriis credit for the flowers, and finding out multiple meanings of Xion's name. Tatarian Asters aren't a flower that commonly referred to.
Also, I haven't enjoyed a minimally-colored piece of art in a while, so this made my day.

Technique: Ugh, long crit is long.
I already mentioned most of my view on the coloring in Vision. ಠ_ಠ But, hey, there's always more.
Hair strokes. Incredibly important, and quite well done. You've followed the contours of her head, and the direction in which her hair falls, and shaded appropriately.

I can also say the same about the shading of Xion's cloak. The shades follow along the darkest edges of her cloak (according to the light), and the long strokes there are placed accordingly.

Certainly a piece of art that is worth faving. I'm a sucker for anything Kingdom Hearts, really, so this was virtually an insta-<img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h…" width="15" height="13" alt="" title="Heart"/> for me. However, I enjoyed the overall simple tones of this piece, and the interpretation of what 'Xion' really means. My hat's off to you, =tabriis, for bringing back your copic markers, and for creating this wonderful piece of art.
